Volvo S60 Recharge

How it looks when you see on the street: We drove the S60 Recharge Black Edition — a plug-in hybrid sedan that has a cool, edge painted black on the grille and performance wheels. The S60 debuted in 2000 and has become a sleek sports sedan that’s now at the top of the heap in the plug-in hybrid category.

How it makes you feel when you get in: The Orrefors crystal shift knob stands out from the pack as the best interior design — elegant and crystal clear and sets the tone for the cabin experience. The Bowers and Wilkins sound system is among our favorites in the industry for symphonic tones. Volvo, a safety leader, earns top safety rating supported by numerous collision avoidance features systems that are standard to the S60 Recharge. Our passengers love the inclusion of heated rear seats.

How it drives: It zooms from 0 to 60 miles per hour in four seconds. It earns a respectable 41 Miles on batteries alone and 143 hp and 228 lb-ft of torque and on gas it gets 455 horses and 523 pound-feet.

Space for people and things: Snug back seat and storage area — it’s more small sedan than hauler.

How much does it cost: The base price is $54,690. Our test vehicle was about $64,000. In a lease situation, the vehicle is eligible for a $7500 tax credit.
