How it looks when you see on the street: I parked the BMW 430i near a farmer’s market and observed its reception. It’s not the sort of sports car that draws oohs and ahhs from afar, but more like knowing nods from enthusiasts who get up close and peer inside. I love the just-right proportions of the 4 series by its sculpted two-door architecture. BMW enthusiasts will forever debate on the merits front end proportions, but its curious take on a grille was not a maker or a deal breaker for me. Why blend in with a bland lewk?

How it makes you feel when you get in: Nimble in the front seat, and a squeeze to wedge the body (or a carseat) into the back. The 4 Series is a low key, high performance four seater sports car that has a cozier cabin than its 3 Series counterpart. The 4 Series coupe has two doors, details that are hard to keep distinct.

How it drives: It’s zesty in that peppy way that will be familiar to BMW owners and due its turbo powered engine that produces an ample 255 horsepower.  It’s equipped with all-wheel drive, a nice detail for a sports car enthusiasts facing slushy driving conditions.

Space for people and things: For it’s car class, it has an average amount of trunk space, which means not a ton. It took some maneuvering, but we got a car seat in the back, and the

Best Features: The touch screen runs the brand’s infotainment system, i-Drive, and is easy to operate.

What makes it stand out: What stands out about 4 Series is its total package, renamed for the 2020 model year, when it was simply called coupe. It’s a fun comfortable sporty ride that has an inviting quality and responsive performance attributes. Owners we know love it as convertible package.

What should you compare it to: BMW 3 Series (we know, confusing), Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4.

How much it costs: The base prices is $47,500. The model we tested was priced at $61,220 equipped with the M Sport Package and the Premium Package (made up of infotainment and cosmetic touches.).
