Mercedes-Benz C-Class

How it looks when you see on the street:  We are fans of the understated C-Class, a slim sedan that has a just right form on the exterior in its 2022 redesign. We’ve spent time in the C on both upstate twisties and running around local city conditions. Its an end of the era as we see less and less small gas powered sports sedans, which in some ways we may miss. Its fun to drive a sporty small car with some pepe.

Luxe features come in a compact cabin that add a bit of refinement, which is why folks have called it the baby S Class. What that name ignores is how truly fun it is to drive a small sedan, which is a sure statement about quality versus size. It adds a lightness to the driving style and experience.

How it makes you feel when you get in: What we like about the C-Class is its energetic spirit. We drove it on scenic tree-lined upstate roads, which remind us of the terrain in southern Germany, so the car felt close to its natural habitat. The infotainment system uses the latest MBUX system, so plenty of bells embossed in a small package. We feel the work that Mercedes has done to make ride and handling smoother in a small package.

How it drives: A subtle zip is emitted from its 255-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. On bumpy upstate New York roads, the C-Class gives us the zip we need to bob and weave out of the way of trucks along the route.

Space for people and things: Suited for kids seated in a backseat booster, luggage, and backpacks.

Pricing: Starts at $46,600 but can option up to $63,590.
