Kia Seltos
A new small SUV that runs on gasoline and covers a sweet spot in Kia’s mighty SUV lineup. There are several different versions of the Seltos, and the differences can be tricky to follow.
How it looks when you see it on the street: It’s got a standout form that gives the exterior a toy-like quality. I was stopped by several people who said the Seltos was high on their purchase list, something that doesn’t often happen in this particular segment.
How it makes you feel when you get in: Refreshed. The tech offerings are solid — Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
How it drives: Easy breezy on the highway. It’s not overly aggressive, but is competitive within its segment.
Space for people and things: In relationship to its size, it makes good use of interior space. There’s room for ample cargo in the trunk space, when the rear seats are folded down.
Best Features: Built-in air purifier — so pandemic prescient. We also like the Bose audio option.
What makes it stand out: Like a bold lip, the Seltos offers a broad color palette that’s not for the low key. The good news is that for those who are confident, the chartreuse is attractive and worth considering. It’s two-tone roof makes it a standout.
What should you compare it to: Chevrolet Trax, Ford EcoSport, Honda HR-V, Mazda CX-30, Nissan Rogue Sport, and Subaru Crosstrek.
How much does it cost: Starting at $21,990.
