Lexus TX
How it looks on the street: We had a friend who observed a trend at the elementary school pickup line that she deemed the “Lexus Moms,” and we’re running with it. The Lexus TX is all that — a three-row SUV that appeals to fancy families that want to sprawl out and project an aura of quiet luxury. The front end has a slated grille that looks like the panels of a modern building and swirls up along the long body and large wheel haunches.
What’s it like on the inside: The inside of the TX is all about roominess and luxe appointments worthy of the Lexus Mom set. It has an expansive 14.0-inch touchscreen and standards such as Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a wireless charging pad. A 21-inch Mark Levinson stereo,npower-adjustable steering column, power-adjustable front seats with heat, and ambient interior lighting are cozy options.
How it drives: We drove the Lexus TX 550h+ Luxury plug-in hybrid model that goes for 33 miles on battery power, for the more conscious set as an EV-starter. It earns 26 miles per gallon and has lots of power to support all that girth. It’s big but it pull 404 horsepower to handle the vehicle’s weight, which is centered along a low center of gravity and makes for smooth ride.
Room for people and things: TX has elbow room for a party of six with the cabin seating option giving minivan DNA, while the straight seven is more about practicality. Storage bins are placed throughout the cabin.
What to compare it to: Acura MDX and Infiniti QX60.
How much does it cost: The TX 500H is priced at $78,050. It also comes in several different variants spanning from a gas, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid, starting with the base TX 350 at $55,050, and other hybrid options including the TX 500h F SPORT Performance Premium AWD, and the TX 500h F SPORT Performance Luxury AWD.
