How it looks when you see on the street: It’s hard to make a dent in the sea of compact SUVs, but the Outlander manages to stand out with a sharp lines and big curves on its exterior for the all-new 2022 model year. The front end is three-dimensional and distinct from pretty much anything else out in this massive segment.

How it makes you feel when you get in: The snazzy interior uses better quality interior than previous generations. Spruced up details include a leather wrapped wheel and an aluminum-coated shifter. The overall interior improvement is a big boost for the Mitsubishi product lineup.

How it drives: It has solid performance, and competent for its primary use— getting around town. Outlander shares platform DNA with the Nissan Rogue, though it’s not evident from its outside appearance, it shares handling characteristic. It’s an efficient gasoline powered model that clocks in at 26 miles per gallon on average. A plug-in hybrid version will be coming in the second half of the 2022 model year.

Space for people and things: The cabin is spacious. The backseat is roomy, but the third row is more suited toward little kids than full-size adults.

Best Features: It has an easy to operate 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a head-up display.

What should you compare it to: Honda CRV or the Mazda CX-5

How much does it cost: We drove a fully loaded modeled with accoutrements, such as heated back seats, and a sticker price of $38,590.
