Nissan Altima

How it looks when you see on the street: The Altima is a car-car, a practical sedan that has a straight forward steady design. We think of Altima as the ultimate commuter car. For the 2023 model year, it gets a slightly more dramatic front end. We drove the 2022 2.5 SR all-wheel drive model.

How it makes you feel when you get in: The seats are comfortable. It’s chief rivals are the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord — mid-sized sedans, which were once common, but becoming a rarer breed in the SUV era. Our test car had the standard 8-inch, which is on the small side. The 2023 model year has an options larger 12.3 inch screen, which is more ideal from user experience perspective. It adds wireless Apple CarPlay, but sticks with wired Android Auto.

How it drives: It’s a comfortable ride and gets great gas mileage for a gasoline powered vehicle — 35 miles per gallon on the highway.

Space for people and things: Front row has excellent leg room. Rear passengers might find more in the Accord’s backseat

How much does it cost: Our test ride was priced at $31,440.
