How it looks when you see on the street: The Nissan Frontier is a compact truck contender that’s been redesigned for 2022. The pickup truck is a fascinating American phenomenon for people who literally want to carry their lives with them for work or play. We like the snug proportions of this package that borders on midsize.

How it makes you feel when you get in: No frills, but no spills. It’s a clean straight forward interior. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard modern touches.

How it drives: It’s a deliberate and capable ride, which is baseline for the truck driver’s out there.

Space for people and things: For pickup truck buyers its all about the length of that bed. The Crew model we drove has a 5-foot bed, while the Frontier King Cab as a 6 foot 1 inch bed. The Crew cab proportions make this a good city truck.

Best Features: A wifi-hot spot is always appreciated. A rearview camera is standard, which seems necessary for a pickup truck.

What should you compare it to: Toyota Tacoma or Ford Ranger.

How much does it cost: It starts at $35,000 for the SV Crew Cab, and our test vehicle had add-ons that consisted of accoutrement likes tech and LED lights pushing up pricing to $43,105.
