Genesis GV70

How it looks when you see on the street: We first reviewed the Genesis GV70 when it was the new kid on the block after its 2022 introduction. Most recently we’ve spent quality time in the electrified Genesis GV70. Genesis offers both models for the 2024 model year. GV70 is a small SUV with a generous grille and a harmonic stature. For 2024, it adds a 19-inch wheel option. It has the feeling of a splurge and is among the standouts in its category. It’s not to be confused with the all--electric GV60, which is even smaller.

How it makes you feel when you get in: The interior is well organized and chic. A thoughtful cabin layout uses the space effectively and seats envelope the passenger including a 12-way seat adjustment for the driver. Some cars are harder to give back than others, and we were quite fond of the look and feel of this space and the way passengers feel on longer trips at ease.

How it drives: We first drove the Genesis GV70 2.5T AWD Advanced, that has the same two engines as the larger GV80: The 2.5T model comes with a 300-horsepower four-cylinder and the GV70 packs a 375-horsepower V6. The electrified GV70 is all battery power, using 77.4-kWh battery pack that produces 483-horsepower and zips up to 60 mph in 3.8 secondThe electrified GV70 was a snap to charge up in only 20 minutes. It handled in a serene manner.

Space for people and things: Lots of cargo room and backseat leg room to compete with the Acura RDX, BMW X3, Lexus NX, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Volvo XC60.

What you should compare it to: The growing class of EVs includes the Porsche Macan, BMW IX, and the Audi eTron.

How much does it cost: Our latest test vehicle was the $75,020, adding in Nappa leather, the 12.3-in head up display, and the low-key rear seat shades. For contrast, the base level GV70 starts aat $46,500, and the electrified model has a base price of $67,000.
