Genesis G70
How it looks on the street: Who says there’s a not a place for pretty sports car brand to brighten up our world? Not Genesis, as it shows the fine form of the G70, a sports sedan designed to compete with the best of the trad German brand that was introduced seven years ago. In 2022, it had some significant tweaks that carry it through the 2024 model year. While the nameplate still may seem obscure to the casual car shopper, the luxury arm of the Hyundai-Kia parent company has gone deep into styling that forces a second look over the past eight years and has married that with a commitment to performance that’s made it a true contender based on its merit.
How it feels on the inside: A luxe car should have a certain feel when you’re inside that communicates its esteem without words or badging. A newer marque has a higher mandate to bring the fancy vibes, so its intentions are clear. This feels comes from exquisite detail, quality materials, and slick in-car tech. The 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system serves as the command center. Genesis Connected Service provides an added layer of commands on top of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto accessibility.
How it drives: The G70 has two engine options – a 2.5-liter four cylinder that producers 300 horsepower and fast and furious twin-turbo 3.3-liter V-6 gas engine that zooms from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds. The performance is balanced and works with responsive steering capability. It’s a gas-only car and fuel economy lands at 20 mpg city and 28 on the highway.
Space for people and things: The G70 translates these attributes in a sporty seating combo that still factors in comfortable seating in the front seats.
What to compare it to: BMW 3 Series, Audi A5, Mercedes-Benz C Class.
How much does it cost: Pricing stays Genesis story. If you’re not brand loyal it offers many of the same attractive qualities as some of category’s stalwarts for a little bit less. Once you’ve entered the coupe doors, you may stick around. Our test vehicle, equipped with more the robust 3.3-liter turbo engine, had a base price of $52,00 and was all in at $58,350 and included a Sport Prestige Package that added in a range of things like a blind-spot mirror monitors, Nappa leather, a power trunk, and sport suspension.
