Hyundai Ioniq 5
How it looks when you see on the street: Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited AWD is the hot new electric car on the block that feels like the near future in which I want to live. It’s an ample sized hatchback with bold appealing angles. It made a big entrance in the world and swept the 2022 World Car of the Year awards.
How it makes you feel when you get in: A clean cut, logical interior and a sun spilling fixed sunroof. We have a lot of discussions about minimalist car interiors. While we do like luxe materials, there’s something to be said for the low key approach that Hyundai takes, though the gray material on our tester is a bit dull.
How it drives: It’s got good cruising power, and a solid range. The base model can produce 220 model, and the long range version can go for 303 miles, by EPA standards. We drove the all-wheel drive version that has a zesty 320 horsepower engine.
Space for people and things: What is always appealing about this form is its practical use of place and space.
Best Features: So many standard feature on the Limited package including a hands-free power lift gate, driver-assist systems, rain-sensing wipers, safety forward collision warning system and tire pressure monitoring. Hyundai offers 3 years of maintenance and 5-year unlimited road assistance.
What makes it stand out: The onboard vehicle to load charging t is such a clever add for those in a jam for on site electricity. It requires a V2L adapter to squeeze out 1.9 kW of electricity, so the car essentially is the power source.
How much does it cost: It starts out at $41,195 and can run in the high $50k range optioned up for the long range Limited option. Our test car was $55,920.
