Hyundai Ioniq 5
How it looks when you see on the street: The Hyundai Ioniq 5 was known as the hot new electric car on the block when it first debuted in 2021 and its gotten a bit more refined with age. It’s an ample sized hatchback suggest SUV appeal with crisp angles that have been nipped and reformed to make it even better. It swept the 2022 World Car of the Year awards and looks primed to earn rave reviews again as its expanded with a performance N variant that has EV performance enthusiast agog. The new model increases range, tweaks to front and rear styling, and a rear windscreen wiper.
How it makes you feel when you get in: A clean cut, logical interior and a sun spilling fixed sunroof. We have a lot of discussions about minimalist car interiors. While we do like luxe materials, there’s something to be said for the low key approach that Hyundai takes, though the gray material on our tester is a bit dull. It does have one missing piece — no wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
How it drives: It’s got good cruising power, and a solid range. The 310 mile ten range for a single-motor Ioniq 5 is solid and the Ioniq now has access to the Tesla Supercharger network . We drove the all-wheel drive version that has moves with zest from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.7 seconds. We look forward to driving the N, which further dials up the performance stats.
Space for people and things: What is always appealing about this form is its practical use of place and space. Yet, space is somewhat limited compared to rivals in this category.
Best Features: So many standard feature on the Limited package including a hands-free power lift gate, driver-assist systems, rain-sensing wipers, safety forward collision warning system and tire pressure monitoring. Hyundai offers 3 years of maintenance and 5-year unlimited road assistance.
What to compare it to: Ford Mustang Mach-E , Tesla Model Y, VW ID4 and Kia EV6.
How much does it cost: It starts out at $41,195 and can run in the high $50k range optioned up for the long range Limited option. Our test car was $55,920.
