 How it looks when you see on the street: The Lexus RX hybrid builds on the sweet spot that Lexus has carved out in the small SUV segment and expands to include attractive hybrid packages, which is the happy medium for many customers. It’s sharp angles buttress in a way that gives it sculptural contours. Driving the RX line leave an elegant impression and sensation.

How it makes you feel when you get in: Subdued, tasteful cabin conveys comfort and spacious quarters. The head-up display, ambient lighting and a panoramic sunroof add a sense of the depth. Five seats offer are roomy for all and lend to more cargo space than past models. The standard screen is the 9.8 inch option and a larger 14.0-inch screen is also available. The optional Mark Levinson stereo system levels up the in-car sound. It has standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which the head-up display is optional.

How it drives: The RX hybrid is available with three different engine options and each has a slightly different take on the typical cushy ride delivered by Lexus. The RX350h which makes 246-horsepower, the 304-horespower RX450h+ plug-in hybrid, which earns an estimated 37 miles of range by plugging in. We drove the RX500h, a gas electric model that makes 366-horsepower in the F Sport Performance package, which has the most oomph of any option. Our test vehicle earned 27 miles per gallon.

How much does it cost: The RX hybrids start at $52,000 and top out at just over $72,000 for the plug-in hybrid model. Our text model was priced at $66,000.
